The play took place with four minutes in 33 seconds left in the first period when Spellacy tried to avoid hit from Red Wings Lucas Raymond. Raymond then fell to the ice as the play continued which in turn caused Dylan Larkin to take exception to what had happened. The play then went back into the Blackhawks zone and Larkin decided to do his dirty play against Spellacy which caused all players to erupt on the ice.
Larkin did receive a penalty on the play for two minutes of interference. After a hotly contested game, the Red Wings doubled up on the Blackhawks 4-2. This rivalry between both clubs never dies regardless of if it's preseason or regular season or even the playoffs as the intensity will always be there.
Several storylines had filled this game including Patrick Kane's return to the United Center after remaining with the Red Wings during free agency. This storyline lines up with Connor Bedard as both players had locked horns a few times during their first game during the Chris Chelios retirement ceremony back in February.
Much like any preseason game, there were plenty of mistakes on both sides of the ice as Connor Bedard had said in his postgame interview. The budding superstar feels that even though the mistakes were plentiful, this game was their first in many months.
The Blackhawks will continue to evaluate their players and be ready for the next preseason game which will be held on Thursday September 27th as both the Red Wings and the Blackhawks will conclude their home and home series In Detroit.
