Connor Bedard is the main talking point of the Chicago Blackhawks right now, and rightfully so.

When discussing what his dream linemate would be on the Jackie Redmond Show, he shied away from the likes of Sidney Crosby, who's on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Brad Marchand, who's on the Boston Bruins.

Instead, he went with New York Islanders' superstar Matt Barzal. The reason is he played with him when he was 12-13 years old, and he's a mentor for him, and he'd love to play with him again.

"There's a lot of guys obviously. Sid's up there, Marchand would be cool, but maybe I'll go with Barzal just because he's someone that I skated with when I was like 12, 13 years old up until today. So I got to know him really well and looked up to him a lot. He's a bit of a mentor for me, so that'd be pretty cool.»

Barzal recently signed an eight year deal with the Islanders worth $73.2 million. Last season, Barzal
had 80 points in 80 games, and had five points in the playoffs.

The 27-year-old had some praise to share for Bedard as well in an interview with The Hockey News, saying when he skated with him when he was a kid, you could see the talent was there right away.

« He would have been 12, I think. Wearing a cage, and his skates looked a little too big. Then we came back the next summer, and he was beating NHL goalies with his shot. It was like, you know the kid's the real deal. ... So it's going to be fun to see him in the league next year."

Bedard ended up being «the real deal» and looks to improve this season.
