This past weekend, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the St. Louis Blues with ease. As they put 6 goals past Blues prospect goalie Vadim Zherenko, there was something to be said of that performance that night.

The Blackhawks prospect core was on fire that night and was led by Connor Bedard in the "Home Away From Home" game.

Bedard would contribute 3 points to the victory, in addition to Nolan Allan, Frank Nazar, Ryan Donato, Philipp Kurashev, and other Blackhawks.

In addition to his leadership, it feels like he earned that "A" patch that night, as he got spicy in another way as well.

He would engage in fisticuffs with some St. Louis Blues during the night, as he would refuse to back down from any Blues players who'd try anything with him or his teammates.

He'd take on Zac Bolduc without hesitations, and it looks like Nick Foligno's mentorship may have paid off long-term, as he doesn't shy away from being an agitator or standing up for himself.

Head coach Luke Richardson wasn't a fan due to the injury risk attached to the grittier style of play we're unaccustomed to from Bedard.

"Connor needs to stay out of that stuff if he could."

"I like the thought process of it and his mentality that he's not going to take anything from anybody."

Connor Bedard has begun his sophomore season, and of course, the risk of injury is scary for Luke Richardson but the Blackhawks as they expect to make a leap in competitiveness this season.

Bedard scored 61 points( 22 G, 39 A) in 68 games, and made an appearance at the All-Star Game in 2024.

The burden of expectations hasn't been lifted, as the team and fans expect bigger production and a step up in the rankings.

We love the spark we see in Bedard, as he's not afraid anymore, especially after the incident with Brendan Smith.

Let's hope he's trained in boxing during the offseason too, just to be sure he can hold his own if an altercation gets a little too spicy.
