The team gave him a long leash behind Petr Mrazek but instead would relegate him to the AHL and let him develop further.
While he continues to work on his weaknesses, the Blackhawks signed former Jets, and Vegas Golden Knights goalie Laurent Brossoit.
Brossoit has been injured prior to his arrival in Chicago, as he had an offseason surgery that repaired his meniscus in August.
Since then he's been off the ice and hasn't been able to practice. But Coach Luke Richardson was asked about his availability, and it seems Brossoit could return soon, as soon as next week.
Brossoit will begin practicing next week in San Jose and won't be ready to take the ice until a few weeks after that.
The former Jets goalie was a part of the team that went on a tear last season and made the playoffs. Brossoit has proven himself to be a solid backup in the NHL, backing up Connor Hellebuyck last season with success.
He's set to be "1B" to Petr Mrazek, who underwent the herculean task of keeping the Blackhawks in the game when they had no business doing so.
Brossoit will be able to give Mrazek a breather, as last season the former Jet played 23 games, with a 15-5-2 record, a 2.00 GAA, and a .927 save percentage.
Brossoit over the next two seasons in Chicago could prove to be a reliable goalie, while giving Drew Commesso and Arvid Soderblom time to mature in the AHL.
For now, it's a waiting game for Brossoit's eventual 1st game in a Blackhawks jersey.
We wait with anticipation and eagerness.
