A recent article from Scott Powers of the Athletic has stated that Blackhawks general manager, Kyle Davidson, will make a move for an elite talent to play alongside Connor Bedard naming Mitch Marner or Mikko Rantanen as potential targets.

It's become clear that the Blackhawks will need to do major changes to their lineup if they have any hope of moving out of the basement of the NHL standings and become an NHL contending playoff team.

The team has been undergoing its transformation with its rebuilding process but it's clear this process needs to speed up or change altogether as the team seems to never be able to come out of their last place standings.

Adding Taylor Hall and Tyler Bertuzzi to the team was a great move on the Hawks' part, in order to increase their teams leadership skills and increase the amount of skilled individuals to help mentor Bedard. Connor Bedard unfortunately needs more than this, he needs elite talent to play alongside him to help boost his game and the Blackhawks game as a whole.

Powers explains how the San Jose Sharks are doing exactly what the Blackhawks need to do, by finding elite talent to play alongside their superstar, Macklin, who has had a better year than Bedard on all levels.

He goes on that adding Tyler Toffoli has added another dimension to Celebrini's game, as they're outscoring their opponents 7-5 with five-on-five play and having scored eight of his twelve goals and recorded 16 of his 27 points when Toffoli's is on the ice with him.

The Blackhawks will have plenty of cap space and with the blessing from ownership, they're capable of adding major additions through the unrestricted free agency, like Marner and Rantanen.

Marner has expressed that he wants to continue to remain a Maple Leaf and his play this year certainly indicates that he wants to get the contract he needs to remain in the blue and white jersey.

As for Rantanen, that is another story. The Colorado Avalanche are currently in a tough situation cap wise and may not be able to fill out his desire of being one of the highest paid players in the NHL, this could be a golden opportunity for the Blackhawks.

As the Hawks prospects continue to develop with the Rockford IceHogs, Davidson needs to ensure he is aggressive and thorough with his decision making to bring Chicago elite talent, this would increase the likelihood of their success moving forward.

There's a good chance this team will look completely different within the next couple of years and adding players like Marner or Rantanen are exactly what Hawks need.
