The Chicago Blackhawks have named veteran forward Nick Foligno as their new captain, making him the 35th in team history, following Jonathan Toews.
At 36 and entering his second season with Chicago, Foligno expressed his gratitude for the honor.
"I'm truly honored to be named captain of this storied franchise," Foligno said. "It's humbling to have the trust of my teammates and the organization, especially at such an important time for the team's future."
Foligno, a 17-year NHL veteran, was traded to the Blackhawks from the Boston Bruins last season.
His leadership will be crucial as the Blackhawks look toward the future, including the development of young stars like Connor Bedard, Korchinski, Colton Dach and the list goes on for the stacked prospect pool of the Blackhawks, which is ranked #1 in the entirety of the NHL.
