The Vegas Golden Knights have announced an odd move to kickstart this week in the NHL on Monday.
They have officially placed 22-year old Daniil Chayka on waivers.
Chayka, is a former second round draft pick in the 2021 NHL draft, but has not had a chance to shine in Vegas due to their defensive core being rock-solid since day 1 in the NHL.
The Golden Knights remain first in the NHL's Pacific division, with one of the best defensive cores in the NHL this season- leaving Chayka on the outside.
The Russian-Born defenseman thrived in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Guelph Storm, leading him to be drafted by Vegas 38th overall, he was expected to be a major piece in their defensive core for many years to come.
At 6-foot-3 and 204 pounds, with great production, he has all the fundamentals to join a franchise that can help him develop.. *cough cough* the Chicago Blackhawks have a star-studded AHL team with Frank Nazar, Artyom Levshunov and several other notable faces to help him do so.
With lots of patience stored in the franchise, the Blackhawks should most certainly take a look, and they better act fast- as they only have 24 hours to submit a waiver claim.
With tons of potential, it would be no surprise for several NHL teams to take a shot at claiming the gigantic 22-year old Russian defenseman.
As 2:00 on Tuesday rolls around, we will wait and see who the lucky team is who acquires this defenseman- or, if he will be playing in the AHL.
