Oh captain, my captain. Our captain indeed. The captain isback? If you've been keeping up with the Hawks this season, you know that they've been exceeding expectations. In what's supposed to be a miserable tank, the Blackhawks are in a playoff spot as of today. Despite the hawks recent 0-4 loss to the Jets, they've looked decent. Most noticeable is Jonathan Toews.
Toews is off to a scorching hot start to this season. In 12 game, Toews currently has 9 points (9G/2A). Not bad, aye? Toews was also on a 7 game point streak which came to a halt as the Blackhawks got shutout by the Jets on Saturday. Last season Toews posted only 12 goals in 71 games played, so this is a huge turn around for the 34 year old captain.
With all this being said, Toews elite performance can help keep the Hawks competitive. At the same time, it ultimately increases his trade value if the Blackhawks do decide to go that route when the trade deadline comes up. However, if the Hawks stay competitive up until the deadline, it might even be worth letting him finish the season in Chicago. That'd be a welcomed sight for Hawks fans.
How and why is Toews performing so well? It's unclear, but there could be a few factors. One factor could be Toews is wanting to quiet the haters and doubters and *wants* to win. Another factor could be Hawks new head coach, Luke Richardson, knowing how to properly utilize Toews. Regardless of the reasons, Hawks fans can only hope that Toews continues to light the lamp and cue Chelsea Dagger.
