Are the Blackhawks targeting an Oilers forward?
It's no secret that the Blackhawks have loads of cap space going into next season. According to capfriendly.com, the Blackhawks have $37.6 million to spend between now and the puck drop of the new season in October. With eight draft picks in the first three rounds and all that cap space, the Blackhawks could remould the entire team into something special.
One player in particular that Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal feels the Blackhawks could look after is Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto. Matheson thinks that since they have plenty of money to spend and that the Oilers are looking for a salary dump as they are currently in a cap crisis could bode well for the Blackhawks.
Yamamoto, who was Edmonton's first-round draft pick 22nd overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft had a down year in terms of production. He only played 58 games, scored ten goals with 15 assists for 25 points and was a + 12.
Yamamoto has disappointed the Oilers and has yet to complete 82 games with the team due to injuries.
Would a change of scenery be helpful for Yamamoto? It's certainly possible, with the fact that the Blackhawks are about to pick the best player in the last number of years in Connor Bedard and will have plenty of ice time maybe this is the change Yamamoto needs.
The summer will be busy for both teams as they begin to retool and rebuild their franchises.
