The Blackhawks were already down to 11 forwards going into last night's game due to Tyler Johnson leaving practice with an illness. To make matters worse, Patrick Kane left the game after the second period. It was announced he wouldn't be returning, as a knee injury he sustained late against the San Jose Sharks seemed to have gotten worse.
Kane got checked by Sharks forward Evgeny Svechnikov, and he immediately went back to the bench. He played through the rest of the game but was never checked out by trainers. As of right now, his injury is being referred to as «lower-body»; there likely won't be any updates until this morning.
It's unclear what caused the injury to worsen, but it became bad enough he had to leave the game. With the trade deadline fast approaching, we might see less of Kane to guarantee he stays healthy. The team hopes to know more this morning.
