Recent reports indicate that Ottawa aims to finalize a move before the upcoming draft, as the 25-year-old sharpshooter is unwilling to sign a long-term extension with the Senators.
Today, new information sheds light on potential landing spots for DeBrincat. Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports that the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Detroit Red Wings are among the teams on DeBrincat's preferred list for a long-term extension.
Last year, Ottawa acquired DeBrincat from the Chicago Blackhawks, surrendering valuable assets in the process.
The return Ottawa can receive in a subsequent trade remains uncertain. Garrioch suggests that Senators GM Pierre Dorion should seek a better return than what the Minnesota Wild received for Kevin Fiala, using the Fiala trade as a comparable.
However, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff tempers expectations, indicating that a package involving winger Filip Zadina from the Red Wings and future considerations may be a likely return for DeBrincat.
While Ottawa may not secure a significant roster player or recoup the full value of the picks they gave up initially, they should aim to acquire a prospect of similar caliber to replace DeBrincat long-term.
The Senators' forward prospect pool lacks top-six potential beyond Shane Pinto and Ridly Greig, making players like Mavrik Bourque (Dallas), Fedor Svechkov (Nashville), Mackie Samoskevich (Florida), or Brendan Brisson (Vegas) potential targets.
