Yes, you read that correctly. The lone Blackhawk in the NHL All Star game is Seth Jones. No, not Patrick Kane, not Jonathan Toews, but Seth Jones. Plenty of Blackhawks fans are left wondering: why Seth Jones?
Let's take a look at Seth Jones' stats and his case for making the NHL All Star roster. For starters, Jones has played in 27/37 games this season. Early in the season Jones suffered a thumb injury which caused him to miss 10 games. Apart from that, Jones has been healthy this season. Jones has tallied 11 points in his 27 games played - not terrible. Lastly, and most importantly, Jones has a very healthy -26 +/-. -26 goal differential in 27 games for a defenseman is awful. Downright awful. Yes, you can blame the Blackhawks for being awful which can be considered a factor, but those are not all star stats.
Perhaps the NHL just wanted someone from the Blackhawks which is fine, despite nobody on the team having numbers that are all star worthy. If the NHL wanted to have a Blackhawk representative why not have Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews in the all star game? Two guys that have been the face of the franchise for over a decade, but they choose Seth Jones. It's nice to have someone from the Blackhawks on the all star roster, but there were better choices to choose from.
