Entering the 2007-08 season, expectations were high for the number one overall draft pick, 18-year-old Patrick Kane.
Through his first six career games, he recorded four assists but had yet to net his first career NHL goal. That all changed on this date 15 years ago.
The opponent: The Colorado Avalanche. The goaltender: José Théodore. The scene: With the Hawks leading 2-0 late in the first period, Patrick Sharp fired a pass over to Kaner for one of his patented one-timers. Just look at those baby faces!
The Hawks would win the game 5-3 as Kaner finished with one goal and two assists for his first career multi-point game. He would score 21 points and 72 points in his first season and win the Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded to the NHL's top rookie, just ahead of teammate Jonathan Toews.
