Last season, Fleury hit is 500th win in December of 2021, while playing with the Blackhawks. He is now at 521, still in 3rd place, just 30 wins behind Patrick Roy, another of Fleury's influences. Joseph sits at number 7 on that list, with 454 wins.
At 943 regular season games, Fleury is only 20 away from tying Ed Belfour for the number 5 spot, and 28 away from the number 4 spot, currently occupied bay Terry Sawchuk. He'll need 87 more games to make it into the top 3, where Patrick Roy is sitting with 1,029. Considering Fleury has another full year on contract with the Wild, that goal is actually attainable.
It seems only fitting that Fleury is about to surpass Curtis Joseph for most regular season games played. Cujo has been an idol of his for years, and in true fan fashion, the Flower followed in his footsteps as best he could.
As we know by now, the now 37 year-old net minder holds the record for most consecutive playoff appearances at 16.
In order to keep that playoff streak alive, Fleury had to leave Chicago less than a year after Vegas traded him, but Minnesota welcomed him with open arms and, well, flowers, of course.
And while this season may be pretty much the exact opposite of that welcome, Fleury does seem to be coming out of his opening slump, making 39 saves in the OT loss to the Bruins, and 23 saves in the OT win over the Canucks the game before.
If he gets the start today, his record breaking 944th game will be against his hometown Canadiens, who cheered his name just over 10 months ago, even though their own team lost. Here's hoping he'll feel the love from both sides, tonight, and get that much closer to making even more milestone moments.
