Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Jeff Petry has been fined $5,000 for roughing Detroit Red Wings forward Jonatan Berggren. This is the maximum fine allowed under the CBA. The incident occurred last night in Pisttsburgh's 6-2 loss to Detroit. In that game, former Hawks player Dominik Kubalik scored two goals.
At 14:14 of the second period, Jeff Petry punched Jonatan Berggren in the back of the head as the Wings player was making a pass.
After the game, here is what Petry had to say regarding his punch to Berggren head:
I am pretty sure this is not how Jeff Petry wanted to start his first season in a Pittsburgh Penguins uniform. Last season, Petry scored 27 points in 61 games for the Montreal Canadiens. He was acquired this summer along with Ryan Poehling in exchange for Michael Matheson.
