When a team acquires a potential Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender, the thought is that the crease is secured.
In Minnesota they are living, at least early on through a case of backwards day, or season if you will. Their Stanley Cup winning goaltender has looked lost and unlike himself early in the 2022-23 NHL campaign.
Here are his statistics from the first four periods of Fleury's season.
If anybody can turn it around it's certainly Fleury, but this is a historically bad start for the Montreal area born goaltender.
With Wild Head Coach Dean Evason's faith in the Fleury - Filip Gustavsson goaltending duo and Fleury's poor start, which caused Evason to pull Fleury and opt to play Gustavsson versus the Kings, it's a cause for concern to say the least.
Thankfully, for Wild fans Fleury has proven himself with his body of work and they also drafted an heir-apparent to Fleury's throne - in goaltending prospect Jesper Wallstedt. Wallstedt was selected with the 20th overall selection in the 2021 NHL Draft.
On a list of unlikely things to happen, Fleury looking like a minor league goalie is a very high option.
