Goalie Woes Get Worse for Wild - The Worst Goal of The Season Thus Far?
Fleury blames himself. The fans do, too, as made apparent by the vocalization of their displeasure in the last game. However, in the third game of the season, the Wild have yet to get a lead, and are still playing catch-up, even when they do manage to score.
Losing in a team sport cannot be any one single person's fault. But it certainly doesn't help when you can't rely on your net minder to actually mind the net, at least once in a while. Tonight, Gustavsson did make some important saves, probably keeping this game from another 6 or 7 goal debacle, but when moments like this happen, it's hard not to wonder what the future will hold, if they can't get out of this opening slump.
And now, with their third game and loss in the bag, they are among only 6 other teams who have yet to win a game. And no, the Arizona Coyotes aren't one of them.
What's wrong with the Wild? Is it strictly goaltending? Is Fleury's age catching up with him? Is it chemistry? He did all right after he was brought in at the trade deadline last season, but not phenomenal. And the Wild got knocked out in 5 games in the first round of the playoffs. I have no doubt Wild fans are missing Cam more than a little right about now, and maybe some of his former teammates are, too. But if they can't find a way to get past that, and work together, their 2023 Playoff plans will be dashed faster than their opponents have been able to score.
