Mason McTavish named World Junior Hockey Championship MVP after the Canadians struck gold

Anaheim Ducks prospect and team Canada captain Mason McTavish, led his team, like many captains before him to a gold medal win and his stellar play also warranted MVP honours.

McTavish led the tournament in points with 17, a full points ahead of second place, Finnish forward, and Nashville Predators prospect Joakim Kemell, who finished the tournament with seven points, along with a Silver Medal with Finland. After the tournament was posponed mid-tournament in December, the Canadian's waited patiently for the new dates, and so to did McTavish, and he certainly relished the opportunity this time around.

McTavish arguably dominated in all three zones, through each and every game; most shifts he would take the game over, with great stickhandling, strong skating and smart hockey plays. Head coach Dave Cameron leaned heavily on McTavish, as his iq, NHL experience and heavy, responsible game proved pivotal for the Canadian's. McTavish's outstanding play seems to have confirm one thing - he certainly wont be back in December, as he proved how dominant he can be at the junior level.

League wide NHL training camps are set to begin in August, and with the Ducks deep prospect pool set to battle for an NHL roster spot - McTavish is sure to be part of the group of young guys looking to make it to the NHL. The Carp, Ontario native did suit up for nine NHL games in 2021-22, scoring two goals, one assist for three points. Anaheim Ducks fans have plenty to smile about with their pool of prospects coming along nicely, certainly McTavish and teammate (Canadian and Anaheim Ducks) Olen Zellweger gave Ducks management plenty of video to watch.
