On June 28th, the Blackhawks had the honor of calling Connor Bedard's name with the first overall pick of the 2023 draft. As a young star comes into the lineup, Kyle Davidson went out and got Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall, two veteran players who could hopefully offer Connor some veteran leadership.
And Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall have been doing just that. You see videos of Foligno talking to Bedard out on the ice in Fifth Third Arena. Nick is going to be that guy to step up for him if he needs too.
But Taylor has offered him some interesting advice:
«It's important for him, when he leaves the rink, to get away from hockey. Find something to do to take his mind off it. It's a long year, and you can't just think about hockey all the time, especially as you get later on in your career. You have to leave the game at the rink, that way when you come back to it, it feels more fresh in your brain. Those are all things I've learned as I've played."
Hall paired up with Bedard on Saturday during practice and is expected to line up with Bedard on opening night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Luke Richardson thinks they can get something going and that they can be very creative together. It's going to be nice for Connor to have the veteran leadership to his left side. He can learn a lot.
