One of the NHL's highest-paid players may be retiring
At UBS Arena in Belmont Park, GM Lou Lamiorello appeared in front of the media in a rare appearance in public.
As part of today's discussion, Zach Parise was a topic of discussion, as he's a Lamiorello favorite. While he remains a UFA for now, he has a history of signing short-term deals prior to training camp in the past.
Lou Lamoriello says Zach Parise will not come to camp with the #Isles. Did not rule out something later in the season but says Parise is home in Minnesota.
The NHL career of Parise is over, isn't it? The team will not offer him a contract, according to NHL Insider Arthur Staples.
There is no indication that Parise will return to the NHL after his buyout and offensive decline since no other team has offered him substantial compensation.
It was a 13-year, $98 Million dollar contract that Parise was given by Chuck Fletcher which was the largest contract in the league until Bill Guerin bought it out. Parise has since signed league-minimum contracts with the New York Islanders for the last 2 years.
Despite that, Parise has been able to contribute 30 points each season over the past two seasons.
