Patrick Kane is confident about his return, his rehab has gone well
In the months following his hip-resurfacing surgery, NHL free agent Patrick Kane did not give a timeframe on when he would return.
Previously, there had been talk of Kane returning mid-season and finding a suitor.
``It's just exciting to see progression and just feeling better on the ice,'' Kane said by phone. ``Kind of getting back to my old self, so it's pretty exciting.''
After the surgery on June 1st, Kane has appeared on the ice 20 times since starting his rehab. He had surgery to resolve a problem he had with the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers during the latter part of last season.
Despite his continued progress, he plans to stick to his rehabilitation schedule until he is cleared for contact.
Kane hopes to hear from NHL teams within the next few weeks as training camp opens.
Then again, he added: ``If someone wanted to come and give an offer that I was excited about, and a situation that I'm excited about, it's not like I wouldn't be listening just because of the situation I'm in.''
Due to injury and being part of a rebuilding Blackhawks team, Kane's production dropped to 21 goals and 57 points in 73 games. After becoming a member of the New York Rangers, his production would increase.
As a player who hopes the surgery will solve his problems, he joins Nicklas Backstrom and Carl Hagelin as others who have also undergone the procedure this past year.
Speculation has surrounded Kane's future but nothing is official yet.
