In case you somehow haven't heard, the Blackhawks and Marian Hossa announced that he would be taking a role with the team in the future, that role to be named at a later date. They announced this Thursday night when Marian Hossa was in the building on a one day contract to officially retire as a Blackhawk. It was also announced that night next season his 81 jersey will be raised to the rafters and join the likes of Glenn Hall (1), Pierre Pilote and Keith Magnuson (both wore 3), Bobby Hull (9), Denis Savard (18), Stan Mikita (21) and Tony Esposito (35).
With the announcement that Hossa would be taking a role with the team, many are speculating what exactly that role will be. Will it be a role close to new manager Kyle Davidson? Or will the Blackhawks go in a different direction and possibly consider him a candidate as their head coach. Now let's be clear, Derek King has been a significant upgrade from Jeremy Colliton, without a doubt. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement, which is clear based on the 6 game losing streak the team is currently on. Derek King will be coaching to remove the interim tag the remainder of the season, and it isn't looking good at the moment.
