They have been hit by the injury bug often, and though some key names have returned or are nearing a return, it is only a matter of time until another injury hits them with the rate it has happened this season.
With that in mind, here are three players from the AHL Rockford Icehogs who could be next in line to be recalled, curtesy of The Hockey Writers:
Alec Regula - Regula is one of the Hawks' best defensive prospects and has 6 points through 12 games this year to go along with a +8 in the +/- category. The Blackhawks need help at the blue line badly, and Regula would definitely be a top 4 defenseman on the Hawks if recalled to replace a right side defenseman due to injury.
Isaak Phillips - Phillips is a defensive prospect, like Regula, but has received much less attention. He is the team's 2020 fifth-round pick, but is one year younger than Regula. That one year age difference is one of the biggest reasons of why Regula would get called up before Phillips, and Phillips is just wo years removed from his draft. With that being said, Phillips could still get the job done if called upon by the Hawks.
Dylan Sikura - This is definitely a controversial one as Sikura has never done much at the NHL for the Hawks, Knights, or Avalanche, and he is also 27 years old. So, why would he be on the list? Well, he has been killing it in Rockford with 14 points in 18 games and has been a massive staple in the team's leadership. The reason he could be called up is not just hit AHL production, but also the Blackhawks being a perfect situation for a 27-year old trying to find his groove at the NHL level. With how he has played in the AHL, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him in the NHL at some point this season if a forward goes down.
