Tortorella Calls Out The NHL in Recent Interview For Being ''Young and Dumb''
The Philadelphia Flyers were in need of a coach this offseason since they had an interim coach filling in after Alain Vigneault was dismissed last year. Until crunch time, Mike Yeo was the Flyers serving coach. With the regular season only a few months away, the Flyers needed a coach.
A number of coaching veterans who had previously led winning teams, like Barry Trotz, Bruce Cassidy, John Tortorella, and others, were up for grabs. Barry Trotz allegedly turned down a sizable salary from the Flyers that would have made him the highest-paid NHL coach because he had no interest in joining the team.
However, John Tortorella believed that the young Flyers club had potential and that his blunt coaching style would benefit the team.
Since starting to coach in the NHL in 1999, Tortorella has stayed true to his old-fashioned practices, which include the gritty traditions of the NHL's early years.
Tortorella called out the NHL in his recent interview stating it's just a ''young and dumb league''.
