Chicago Blackhawks reporter calls out team owner for being a joke'
The final nail is in the coffin for the Arizona Coyotes franchise as the team will move to Utah, as the Smith Entertainment Group takes ownership.
As the situation continues to develop, former Coyotes and "future" Coyotes Alex Meruelo made a statement.
In the statement, he agreed with Gary Bettman who pretty much said that it was unfair to the players and NHL for the team to continue to play in Mullett Arena.
Meruelo was unable to complete the process to find a new home, so the team changed hands.
The statement has led Blackhawks reporter Ben Pope to call him out for his statement, said with no irony.
Pope called Mereulo a "Joke" and who wouldn't disagree with him, as he's been unable to find a solution to the Coyotes' arena woes, while not paying their fair share to the NHL, while teams like the Seattle Kraken are successful.
Pope wasn't wrong for not holding back his words, as Meruelo's statement was made with the intent of self-awareness, but his actions to continue to hold onto the Coyotes' name for another shot down the road shows Meruelo hasn't learned much really.
A little humility goes a long way nowadays.
