The Chicago Blackhawks' defensive situation definitely has some question marks, and Corey Crawford would probably like some help. Chicago has the cap room to be a player during free agency, but will general manager Stan Bowman make any significant moves? That remains to be seen. One NHL insider has linked the Blackhawks to one of this summer's biggest free agents. According to Eklund of HockeyBuzz, the Blackhawks are one of three teams in the mix for defenseman Jake Gardiner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It would be an expensive move for the Hawks as he'll likely cost around a minimum of $6million a season. However it's not the price that's raising eyebrows, it's the fact the he's a left handed defenseman. The Hawks currently have Duncan Keith, Erik Gustafsson, Carl Dahlstrom, Gustav Forsling and Slater Koekkoek on the left side while the only right handed defenseman on the NHL roster right now are Brent Seabrook and Connor Murphy. Do you think Gardiner would make sense for the Hawks?
