It is now confirmed for Steven Stamkos and the Chicago Blackhawks
Ex-Lightning Steven Stamkos' Next Contract Revealed
There's buzz about Steven Stamkos' next contract that has been circulating for the past few weeks.
Journalist Frank Seravalli shared details from AFPAnalytics, a group known for accurately predicting player contracts.
They suggest Stamkos could sign for $6.13 million a year for three years. This rate is considered reasonable for his skill level, but that price tag now confirms the Blackhawks would be out- as they would much rather acquire two players at $3M, than signing Stamkos to a $19M deal.
Stamkos has had a strong season, scoring 81 points in 79 games, which includes 40 goals.
His performance in the playoffs was also strong, with 5 goals in 5 games. Given these numbers, $6.13 million a year seems like a fair price, but not for the Blackhawks who are on the come up.
At $6.13 million a year, it might be a wise choice for teams in playoff contention, but for bottom-dwelling or rebuilding teams like the Blackhawks it is in best interest to stay away.
