NHL Department of Player Safety announces punishment to Toronto Maple Leafs, former Chicago Blackhawks forward

The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Monday that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi has been fined $5,000 for an elbow against Philadelphia Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway.

The $5,000 fine is quite nothing to Domi's $3.75M deal with the Maple Leafs, but it is the maximum allowable under the NHL's CBA (collective bargaining agreement).

At the 5:13 mark in the third period during the Leafs' overtime win in Toronto at Scotiabank arena on Sunday, 29-year old former Blackhawk Max Domi was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing.

Which would ultimately lead to his fine, see below:

It may have been sparked by an earlier incident, noted by The Hockey News .

"Domi's elbow comes just over 25 minutes after Hathaway dropped the gloves with Jake McCabe. Toronto's defenseman fought the Flyers' forward after he collided with Dennis Hildeby while going to the net.

Hathaway and McCabe wrestled each other to the ground, but the Maple Leafs' defenseman was shaken up after hitting the ice awkwardly. He was able to exit the ice on his own, though he never returned to the game with what Toronto called an upper-body injury."

The DOPS (department of player safety) announced the fine to their social media, but has yet to release an explanation of the incident, as they do for all punishments, on NHL's Player Safety Official Site

Do you think this Toronto Maple Leafs forward deserves a longer, more severe punishment from the NHL Player Safety Committee?
