UMD Bulldogs Captain Dominic James was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft(173rd Overall).

He was named Captain of the Bulldogs for the 2024-2025 NCHC season, despite only playing 2 games in 2023-2024 and tallying 1 point.

The reason he missed the majority of the last season was due to a season-ending injury and would have to undergo shoulder surgery.

He'd land the Captaincy and is ready to lead the way for the Bulldogs, as he is already proving to be a reliable contributor to the team.

The play saw defenseman #42 Owen Gallatin pass to Dominic James at the point, on the right, and shoot the puck with determination.

Scoring on the University of Manitoba's Braden Holt and netting a power-play goal, which occurred at 13:40 in the 2nd period.

This was one of 2 power-play points James would score during the rout against the University of Manitoba.

The end score would be 7-2 and with James scoring twice, there'd be six other Bulldogs players earning a point during the game as well.

James is another overager forward, this time coming out of Minnesota-Duluth. He's not known for his offensive production - he put up just 18 points (6 G, 12 A) in 39 NCAA games at the age of 20 - but he's touted as having a strong work ethic and above-average defensive prowess.Jul 8, 2022

2022 NHL Draft: Blackhawks select Dominic James with No. 173 pick

While this scouting report isn't a glowing review of Dominic James's production, above they reference his work ethic and defensive prowess.

This is a valuable trait for any team in the NHL, especially in the post-season when games come down to the wire.

Today's game might be an uncharacteristic game for him, or is he continuing to develop as the Blackhawks want him to?
