Do or die: One Blackhawk is on the hot seat this season and will be traded
Last season, Lukas Reichel was sent down to the AHL to help the Rockford IceHogs during their playoff run.
He finished with 8 points in 10 games and then played for Team Germany at the IIHF World Championships, scoring 7 points in 6 games.
His performance showed he wasn't finished yet.
Despite a tough year in the NHL, where he only scored 16 points in 65 games, the Blackhawks have given him a two-year contract.
This deal is a chance for Reichel to prove he can perform both in the NHL and in international play- and if not, it's clear he will be the next one out as the Blackhawks have tons of young talent on the come up, a roster spot cannot be hogged.
Now, the question is whether Reichel can use his post-season momentum in the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
He needs to show the Blackhawks and GM Kyle Davidson that he can be a reliable player on NHL ice.
Fans are speculating about his future.
Bleacher Nation has posted a poll asking if Reichel can score 15 goals and reach 40 points this season, or if he might be traded.
