News of Kyle Beach's incident spread quickly throughout the hockey world, and the fallout hit hard. It was an unceremonious exit for Joel Quenneville and Stan Bowman.

Every effort has been made since then to get reinstated into the league.

Recently, they spoke with 64 general managers and coaches at O'Hare Airport, which wasn't mandated but was apparently voluntary.

"It wasn't something that they were told they needed to do," Bettman told reporters after the meeting. "We said if you'd like the opportunity to address the group, you would have it."

«I still have to make a judgment as to when or whether it's appropriate for them to be reinstated,» Bettman said. «It's something I'm going to have to focus on more, and at some point, make a decision on."

The law firm Jenner & Block reported that Quenneville, the second-winningest coach in the league, and Bowman, the GM during the Blackhawks dynasty, were both found accountable for the Beach incident.

They weren't suspended from the NHL, but Gary Bettman must clear them to return.

Bettman seems unlikely to reinstate Bowman and Quenneville anytime soon, despite their July reinstatement application.

«Because I have to go through that process at some point, I don't want to be discussing it publicly until I'm ready to tell everybody what I'm thinking,» Bettman said.

"Based on the opportunity we had had at dinner last night and the opportunity for people to get together, I think everybody in the room thought it was terrific to do it," Betttman said. "Having the group of 64 in the room was really good."

Although the Coaches and GM meeting was a success, no official announcement has yet been made.
