An Unlikely Friendship has been struck by two top prospects
As expected, the Chicago Blackhawks selected Connor Bedard as the top prospect in the NHL draft. Because of rumors and hearsay about Matvei Michkov, he dropped to seventh overall.
Neither prospect let that stop them from conversing and from empathizing with one another.
Two of the most high-profiled talents in the 2023 draft have started a great friendship.
Here's what Michkov said in a Russian interview on Bedard:
«When I had the tragic news of my Dad, Connor texted me; Everything will be fine, I'm with you. I've seen how you play, I know you'll make him proud. Stay strong. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask.»'
Michkov also told Bedard, «I know you aren't likely to be in Russia but if you are anytime let me know. I'm always happy to see you.»
Matvei Michkov received words of sympathy and kindness from Connor Bedard after losing his father.
Michkov was deeply touched by Connor's message, even though the text was short.
I think it proves how classy competitors can be to one another and even build friendships early in their careers.
Michkov responded to Bedard's text by saying he would be happy to meet him if he was ever in Russia.
Although unlikely, who knows where the Blackhawks' top prospect Bedard might land next? Would he be able to train with Alex Ovechkin, or play an exhibition there? It's impossible for us to know for sure, but we do know Bedard is a classy individual.
