Are the Maple Leafs circumventing the salary cap with this move?
There are reports that Matt Murray of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been placed on the Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) list. However, it has been confirmed that Murray had already been cleared to play since April 2nd, during the team's game against the Florida Panthers.
This situation has raised suspicions, particularly since Brad Treliving, the team's manager, has refused to comment on it.
Interesting he must of had a wild summer vacation and got «hurt»
Hey Chris, I'm sure the league does their due diligence but cause these ever be investigated? Thank you
The league needs to do something about this rule. It's led to multiple teams winning cups because of this or teams just throwing cap on the IR. It's a joke.
Although Murray's record in Toronto was not bad, with 14 wins, 8 losses, and 2 ties, with a .906 save percentage, he has since decided to focus on training.
It is possible that the medical team recommended that he avoid contact sports, which would explain the LTIR decision.
Unfortunately, this means that Murray will not be able to play for the Leafs this year.
The move to put Murray on the LTIR has freed up $11.6 million in cap space for the team, given that Jake Muzzin is also on the LTIR list.
However, some experts have raised concerns that this tactic could be investigated by authorities.
It remains to be seen what will happen next, but we will keep you updated on any developments.
How much did they have to pay the doc to allow this one?
