As of late, and especially this off-season it has became more of a trend for players who are on the edge of cracking their respective teams NHL lineup to announce their departure and sign elsewhere, somewhere that they will be a star rather than a third line NHL player.
The newest player to announce his departure is a Stanley Cup Champion...
Justin Abdelkader announced he will be leaving the Red Wings as well as the NHL as a whole after fourteen years on the Wings, to pursue a career in Europe.
Abdelkader may be recognized from the Red Wings' cup championship in 2008, but he sadly did not get his name engraved on the cup due to lack of playing time throughout the playoffs.
With one game shy of 740 total, the gritty forward ended his career with 252 points, and many national tournaments with his country, team USA.
