Murphy is having a solid season defensively for the Blackhawks and has been logging just about 19 minutes of ice time through 43 games. He also has 6 points and is a +/- -5.
One thing that makes Murphy appealing to potential trade suitors is that he still has 3.5 years of control on his contract. Murphy also only carries a $4.4 million dollar AAV through the rest of his contract, which could entice contenders who may be tight against the cap to explore a trade for him.
Chicago Sun Times and Blackhawks reported Ben Pope recently talked to Connor Murphy about the trade deadline and the potential of being dealt to a contender. Murphy stated "we're used to it by now, knowing that anything is possible".
While Murphy has proved to be a nice addition to the Blackhawks blue line, trading him at the deadline makes a lot of sense. By trading Murphy, the Blackhawks could receive younger prospects or draft capital to help the rebuild while Murphy finally gets a chance to play for a contender. A trade would also allow the Blackhawks to play both Ian Mitchell and Isaak Phillips without sending one back to Rockford or scratching. What do you think? Should Murphy get moved?
