Last night's Season Opener was one for the history books - on several levels. Obviously, Connor Bedard's first game, facing Sidney Crosby, all the hype, the fact that the Hawks were the team that knocked the Penguins out of making the playoffs for the first time in 17 yearsall of that. But add to that, the newfound spark in Petr Mrázek's game. He's the veteran goalie, now. He has to fight for that number one slot. And if last night was any indication of how his season is going to go, it's his.

In the Blackhawks' 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, the 31 year old Chicago net minder made 38 saves on 40 shots. Coincidentally, that's exactly how many he made the last time these two teams met.

But more importantly, he carved himself out a number 2 spot on the all-time season opener saves list for Blackhawks goaltenders. Just two saves shy of the 40 saves made by Al Rollins in 1955, which helped Chicago beat Detroit 3-2.
Mrázek took over 2nd place from Marty Turco, who made 37 saves in 2010, in a 4-3 OT loss to Colorado.

It seems like Söderblom will have an excellent role model for this season. The rebuild is here, and it is good.
