It has been confirmed that Alex DeBrincat has been traded by the Ottawa Senators, despite his earlier prediction of being traded during the draft.

In order for the winger to be signed, he would have needed to be traded to an American club with enough cap space to accommodate his qualifying offer.

UPDATE: The #RedWings today acquired forward Alex DeBrincat from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 1st round pick and a 4th round pick in 2024.

DeBrincat has agreed to an extension with Detroit. Hearing 4-years, $7.875M AAV range.

As
@FriedgeHNIC
had first, he's been traded to Detroit. Trade details coming soon.

DeBrincat will be traded to Detroit. Again, im not sure of the package.will not be a long, long-term extension Im told. 4-5 years, I think.

The Detroit Red Wings were the team that ultimately offered DeBrincat $7.875 Million AAV for a 4-year contract.

«Wow 4 years at 7.8. Ottawa offered him 8.5 for 8. He'll be almost 30 when it's up. Who's gonna pay him a 7-8 year after this one very very wild guy does NOT want to play in Canada 😂😂»

As part of the deal, the Red Wings traded a conditional 1st round pick and a 4th round pick in 2024, along with Dominik Kubalik and Donavan Sebrango, to acquire DeBrincat.

It seems that DeBrincat's time in Canada has come to a close and he is now free to return home.

I'm rooting for DeBrincat, but my god he fumbled the bag.
