Daniel Alfredsson is widely-viewed as the greatest Ottawa Senator of all time, and captain.
Such is the reason why he took it upon himself as a person and teammate, to mentor a young Swedish born defenceman, who was drafted 15th overall in the 2008 NHL Draft.
If you guessed Erik Karlsson, you were right. Alfie and Karl, as Sens fans called the pair - they were inseperable upon Karlsson's arrival in Ottawa to play for the NHL club. Alfredsson acted as a billet of sorts for the rookie defenceman, opening up his home, to allow Karlsson to more easily acclimate to life in North America.
After Alfredsson's departure to the Detroit Red Wings, there was a vacant captaincy role in the nation's capital. And who better to take on the role than the Senators number one defenceman, and study of Alfredsson - Erik Karlsson.
On October. 2, 2014 , the native of Landsbro, Sweden., was named captain of the Senators, and the rest is history as we know it.
Karlsson was for a time, arguably one of the best player's in the world, making seemingly impossible plays, look far too easy.
The Swedish connection between Alfredsson and Karlsson will forever be etched in the Senators' history books.
