While I would certainly hope for a much better return than this prediction, I wouldn't be surprised. The Rangers hold all of the leverage in all trade talks. Kane picked his ideal destination and the organization will be inclined to grant his wish. Kane earned his full NMC with his historic play in Chicago and is using it to his advantage. The Rangers have been making moves to try to clear the cap space necessary to acquire Kane, which appears to be the only hold up in a deal being completed.
While many fans are surely going to blame Davidson for a lackluster return, I don't blame him one bit. It's Kane's decision on where he wanted to go and him only wanting to accept a trade to one team in particular killed any chance of creating a bidding war or getting maximum value.
I also don't blame Patrick Kane for the way the situation is playing out either. After everything he has done for the Blackhawks franchise, he deserves to play for a contender again and chase down more rings. It's a messy situation that neither party wants to be in but we are finally pushing full speed ahead towards a conclusion. If the trade happens like anticipated, Kane will be reunited with Artemi Panarin once again and will look to create more magic in New York while we will be forced to accept whatever the Rangers are willing to give us in return. That's just the reality of the situation we are in.
