Former Blackhawks defenseman Michal Kempny has found a new home. Kempny signed a one year deal worth $750,000 AAV with the Seattle Kraken.
Kempny spent one and a half seasons in Chicago, playing in 81 games during that span. Over the course of those games, Kempny had 15 points and was a +/- 14. Kempny never seemed to find his stride in Chicago, but after being traded to Washington he found his groove. Kempny played on the top pairing with John Carlson on their quest to the Stanley Cup.
Since winning the Stanley Cup, Kempny has had a very tough time staying healthy. Kempny suffered numerous lower body injuries over the last three years, limiting him to 58 and 15 games played in the NHL over the last three seasons.
This signing for the Kraken is the definition of a low-risk high reward move. Kempny is a Stanley Cup champion who has proven to be able to play top pairing minutes. However, that was a few years ago. Kempny will look to find a new home on the blue line in Seattle and has the opportunity to turn his career around. After the injuries he's had, it is hard not to root for him to succeed.
