It hasn't been a great season for Seth Jones or the Blackhawks in general, but Tuesday night, Jones etched his name in the record books with his performance in the final three minutes against the Buffalo Sabres.
Jones scored the game-tying goal with 55.8 seconds remaining in regulation and scored the 10th overtime goal of his NHL career, making him the third defenseman in league history with a double-digit total, joining Brent Burns (16) and Scott Niedermayer (13). It was also his first two-goal game with the Blackhawks and first since Dec 6, 2018.
Jones became the third blueliner in NHL history with a tying goal in the final minute of regulation and the overtime winner, joining Philadelphia's Joni Pitkanen (Nov 8, 2005) and St. Louis' Rob Ramage (March 10, 1984).
Three forwards have accomplished the feat with Chicago: Denis Arkhipov (Jan 28, 2007), Jeff Hamilton (Dec 2, 2006) and Alexei Zhamnov (April 7, 2000).
After only 10 points in his first 26 games this season, Jones has recorded nine points including three of his four goals, in the last six contests.
