Today, the Blackhawks made an interesting roster move by demoting Lukas Reichel to Rockford. Therefore, Reichel will begin the season with Rockford. This move comes as a surprise given how well Reichel played in the preseason and throughout training camp.
Many fans are outraged by the move because Reichel was widely expected to be with the Blackhawks this season to take the next step with his development. Captain Jonathan Toews spoke on Reichel this afternoon and offered his stance on the demotion.
Toews stated that «a guy like him with his skillset, speed, and size, there is no reason to rush him». Toews also mentioned that he knows Reichel will be a high end talent in this league, but he needs to develop his confidence to reach his full potential.
While we may have to wait a little longer for Reichel to become a mainstay on the Blackhawks main roster, the future is very bright for the young prospect. He will immediately be the top line center in Rockford and play valuable minutes to get him more comfortable on the ice. Hopefully Reichel bounces back stronger and we will see him in Chicago at some point this season.
