The Blackhawks are completely backwards in the special teams category. They are 0 for 7 on the power play, and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.
It's funny because this was the same thing last year. The power play sucked and the penalty kill was solid.
Ever since Luke Richardson came in, the penalty kill has been great. They generate chances to score goals and led the league in shorthanded goals at one point because of their aggressiveness.
However, the penalty has been a different story. It just can't get going. Chicago doesn't shoot often on the power play and cycles often to find shooting lanes, but they never open. Then the puck gets cleared and that's that. They've had a couple chances to break through, but so far, nothing in the back of the net.
Richardson really improved the penalty kill, but now he has to work on improving the power play.
