The Blackhawks have decided to pay Connor Bedard's 1st NHL fine and Gary Bettman was ok with it!
The epic showdown between Connor Bedard and Sidney Crosby against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night lived up to expectations.
As a rookie defenseman, he and fellow rookie Kevin Korchinski opted to skate and shoot pucks without helmets during warmups.
Breaking rules before even playing a game.
ESPN reports the Blackhawks told Bedard and other Chicago rookie Kevin Korchinski they'll take care of the fines, as one will be coming for going without a helmet in warmups.
The NHL implemented the rule for any player entering the league in 2020 or later.
Players entering the league after 2020 will be protected by the rule the NHL implemented prior to 2020. Bedard and Korchinski were too quick to collect their first fine in the league, seeing as it was their first regular season game as well.
Since then, the team reportedly told the two that they'll pay the fines to Bedard and Korchinski.
As far as I can tell, the NHL will let this slide, but who knows what will happen next time?
The first NHL game Bedard played, during which he recorded an assist, was a positive experience, but he will need to adjust again now that the preseason has ended! Obviously, he was upset after being caught off-guard by a Penguins defenseman.
