The Calder Trophy odds for the 2023-24 season have been released.
With the NHL draft concluded, the summer is now in full swing for the NHL, bringing development camps and predictions for the upcoming season. This year's draft showcased a considerable number of talented players, including potential generational talents that had teams eagerly anticipating their selections.
BetOnline has released its odds to win the Calder Trophy, which is awarded to the rookie of the year. It comes as no surprise, both to myself and to anyone familiar with this tweet, that Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks is the odds-on favourite to win the trophy.
While Bedard takes the top spot, other notable names in the top five also make sense given their rankings in the draft. Bedard is expected to have an outstanding season as he embarks on his journey as the new leader of the Blackhawks. Additionally, he will need to adapt his game to compete against seasoned professionals, adjusting to the NHL's high speed and skill.
Bedard's skill set is nothing short of impressive. Standing at 5'10" and weighing 185 pounds, the 17-year-old centerman hails from North Vancouver, BC.
Last season, he played 57 games for the Regina Pats, scoring an impressive 71 goals and contributing 72 assists for a total of 143 points. Furthermore, he accumulated 62 penalty minutes and maintained a +39 rating.
Having also been awarded the WHL Player of the Year, Bedard is undoubtedly a strong contender for the Calder Trophy this season.
