In the last few seconds, we have just learned that it is officially over for 25 year old defenseman Sami Niku in the Montreal Canadiens organization.
Niku has made the decision to return to his native country, Finland, and is joining the JYP club in the Liiga (the best league in Finland).
The offensive defenseman played 67 games in the NHL (16 points), including 13 games with the Montreal Canadiens (6 points).
In 2021-22, he had 13 points in 36 games with the Laval Rocket during the season, but a solid 11 points in 15 games in the 2022 American Hockey League playoffs.
Niku was drafted by the Habs from Winnipeg on September 24, 2021.
We wish him the best of luck!
Once again, another player is leaving the Rocket. The Montreal Canadiens' roster will be very different next year, compared to 2021-22.
