The truth has been exposed as to why Patrick Kane won't return to the Chicago Blackhawks organization
It appears Patrick Kane is close to making a decision about where he will play the remainder of the NHL season. Having spent half a year in rehabilitation, the forward was recently seen skating in Oakville, Ontario.
Pat Brisson has been meeting with multiple teams and narrowing down Kane's next destination. Among the teams he has met with are the Florida Panthers, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, and others.
NHL Insider Elliot Friedman reported that the star won't be playing in the West due to the additional travel.
The teams that I consistently hear about are Eastern teams, I think there is a concern about what the West and travel will do to him. I think there are teams in the West that are interested.
As John Klingberg found out on his way to the Sweden Global Series, long flights aggravated his hip injury. In addition to Kane's return from hip resurfacing surgery, there is concern about an aggravation in the future.
In 72 games played last season, the forward scored 21 goals and 36 assists for 57 points. Kane split his time between the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers in the past, and if he can replicate or surpass those numbers, he could be an excellent depth option.
Having to step aside from the NHL for the time being after the same surgery, Nicklas Backstrom is a cautionary tale. Hopefully, Showtime won't be in the same boat.
Hopefully, Kane is primed for a return to form in 2023-2024.
