Tough News for the Blackhawks and IceHogs As Their Captain moves on
The American Hockey League has been Garrett Mitchell's primary professional environment.
Mitchell played one NHL game throughout his entire career for the Washington Capitals after being selected in 2009.
Good luck
@Mitchy1_0
as you get on with your life's work. Thank you for everything. We can't wait to see what you do next!
The Washington Capitals signed Mitchell to a three-year entry-level contract in 2010-2011, and he only appeared in the NHL once in 2016-2017 against the Florida Panthers. In the following six years, he spent six more seasons playing in the AHL with Hersey before playing in the AHL again with the Laval Rocket.
He ended his AHL career with the IceHogs after four years in Rockford.
The announcement of Mitchell's retirement from professional hockey came today.
As the IceHogs have to figure out who will be the next leader of the team in his absence, there is no word yet on what is next for the former captain.
