Alex Stalock was hit hard by Islanders forward Casey Cizikas only a few minutes into the game. Cizikas's left shoulder made contact with Stalock's head, knocking him into the right goal pipe and sending the net off its posts. Stalock didn't move for a few moments, but he was eventually helped off the ice; Arvid Söderblom took his place in the crease.
This morning it was confirmed that Stalock was placed in concussion protocol, and there's no timeline set for his return. He's now the second Blackhawk's goaltender out of action, following Petr Mrázek who's out with a groin strain.
Cizikas was playing his second shift when he made contact with Stalock. He was originally going to sit in the box for a five-minute major, but he was given a game misconduct after review. This morning it was announced by NHL Player Safety that Cizikas has been fined for the hit.
