It started with Philadelphia Flyers prospect Goaltender Ivan Fedotov, who was set to leave Russia and the KHL to join the Flyers this season. Unfortunately Fedotov was punished by the Russian Government and even poisoned while in police custody. Since then Fedotov has been forced to a military outpost for military service.
Since then there's been concern the same could happen to Minnesota Wild's top Star Krill Kaprizov.
Earlier this month the Minnesota Wild star was denied entry into the United States while attempting to return to his home in Minnesota and was ordered back to Russia.
The report at the time was that Kaprizov didn't have a valid work visa, but that the Russian/American consulate would expedite his case to get him back in America. Unfortunately for The Wild and Kaprizov he was once again denied entry to the Us.
Reports say Kaprizov has been accused of acquiring a fake military ID in 2017 to avoid mandatory service Russian's are forced into. Kaprizov's ID has reportedly lapsed making Kaprizov eligible for the military service with Russia in what they are calling war on their pathetic invasion on the people of Ukraine.
With the NHL's training camp coming up soon many are wondering if Kaprizov will make it back?
"It's scary. It's scary for all of us," Wild coach Dean Evason told The Athletic. "It's a scary situation in our world. To see somebody as close as we know Kirill, yeah, it's a scary situation. And we hope that it all gets sorted out correctly."
GM Bill Guerin spoke to Wild insider Michael Russo today and echoed much of his head coach's sentiment.
"He should be OK and we should be OK. But it's delicate and I'd rather not comment on it," Guerin stated to Russo.
